  • Kashmir Earthquake 2005: Plate Boundary & Main Himalayan Thrust
The Kashmir earthquake of October 8, 2005, occurred along the convergent plate boundary between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

Specifically, the earthquake occurred on the Main Himalayan Thrust (MHT), a major fault that marks the boundary between the two plates. This thrust fault is responsible for the formation of the Himalayan mountain range, as the Indian Plate collides with and slides beneath the Eurasian Plate.

The 2005 Kashmir earthquake was caused by a slip along this fault, releasing a massive amount of energy and causing significant ground shaking and destruction.
