  • Oxygen and Silicon: The Most Common Elements in Minerals
    The two elements most commonly found in minerals are oxygen (O) and silicon (Si).

    These two elements make up the majority of the Earth's crust and are the building blocks for many common minerals, including:

    * Quartz (SiO2)

    * Feldspar (various compositions, but often containing Si, O, Al, K, Na, Ca)

    * Micas (containing Si, O, Al, K, Na, Mg, Fe)

    While there are many other elements found in minerals, oxygen and silicon are the most abundant and form the foundation for a large portion of the Earth's mineral diversity.
