  • Understanding the Geosphere: The Foundation of Earth's Soil
The layer in which all soil sits is called the geosphere.

The geosphere encompasses all the solid, non-living components of the Earth, including:

    * Rocks: This includes the Earth's crust, mantle, and core.

    * Minerals: These are naturally occurring inorganic substances found within rocks.

    * Soil: Formed from the weathering of rocks and organic matter.

So, while soil itself is a layer within the geosphere, it is ultimately part of the larger geosphere system.
