  • Porosity and Water Absorption in Rocks: Understanding the Relationship
A rock with high porosity will probably absorb more water.

    Here's why:

    * Porosity is the amount of empty space within a rock.

    * High porosity means the rock has a lot of these empty spaces.

    * Water can easily fill these spaces, making the rock absorb more of it.

Think of a sponge. It has lots of holes (high porosity), which allows it to absorb a lot of water.
