  • Understanding the Holocene Epoch: Earth's Recent Geological Time
The most recent geological time period is the Holocene.

It began about 11,700 years ago after the last glacial period and continues to this day.

Some scientists argue that we are now in a new epoch called the Anthropocene, due to the significant impact humans have had on the planet. However, the Anthropocene has not yet been officially recognized by the International Commission on Stratigraphy.
