  • Understanding Nonmetallic Mineral Resources: Industrial & Dimension Stones
    Nonmetallic mineral resources are generally divided into two groups:

    1. Industrial Minerals: These are used in various industries for manufacturing, construction, and other purposes. Examples include:

    * Construction Materials: Sand, gravel, limestone, gypsum, clay

    * Chemical and Industrial Minerals: Salt, sulfur, potash, phosphate rock, boron

    * Gemstones and Precious Minerals: Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires

    * Other Industrial Minerals: Mica, talc, asbestos, graphite

    2. Dimension Stones: These are quarried and used in their natural state as building materials. Examples include:

    * Granite

    * Marble

    * Limestone

    * Sandstone

    * Slate

    It's important to note that some minerals can be classified under both groups, depending on their usage. For example, limestone can be used as a construction material (dimension stone) or as a source of calcium (industrial mineral).
