  • Calcination of Limestone: Understanding the Reaction and Products
When limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) is heated, it decomposes into calcium oxide (CaO), also known as quicklime, and carbon dioxide (CO2).

The chemical equation for this reaction is:

    CaCO3 (s) → CaO (s) + CO2 (g)

    This process is called calcination.
