  • Brown Diamonds: What Causes Their Color & Are They a Separate Mineral?
There is no mineral specifically known as the "brown diamond".

While brown diamonds are a real thing, they are not a separate mineral. They are simply diamonds that have a brown color, which can be caused by various factors like nitrogen impurities, lattice defects, or even the presence of other minerals within the diamond.

However, brown diamonds are sometimes referred to as "chocolate diamonds" or "cognac diamonds" in the gemstone industry.
