  • Sedimentary Rocks: Formation, Composition, and Processes
The type of rock formed from loose rocks and dirt transported and re-deposited is called sedimentary rock.

    Here's why:

    * Sedimentary rocks are formed from the accumulation of sediments, which are loose materials like sand, silt, clay, pebbles, and even the remains of organisms.

    * Transportation is the process of these sediments being moved by wind, water, or ice.

    * Re-deposition occurs when the transporting force loses energy, causing the sediments to settle and accumulate in a new location.

    * Over time, these sediments are compacted and cemented together by minerals, forming solid sedimentary rock.

    Examples of sedimentary rocks:

    * Sandstone: Formed from sand grains cemented together.

    * Conglomerate: Formed from rounded pebbles and gravel cemented together.

    * Limestone: Formed from the accumulation of marine organism shells.

    * Shale: Formed from the accumulation of clay and silt.
