  • Chalk: Identifying This Sedimentary Rock Type
Chalk is an example of a sedimentary rock.

    Here's why:

    * Sedimentary rocks are formed from the accumulation and cementation of sediments, which can be fragments of other rocks, minerals, or organic material.

    * Chalk is primarily made up of the calcium carbonate shells of microscopic marine organisms called foraminifera.

    * These shells accumulate on the seafloor over millions of years, get compacted, and then cemented together by pressure and dissolved minerals to form chalk.
