  • Understanding Erosion: How Natural Forces Shape Rock Types
It's not that a specific type of rock forms erosion, but rather that erosion forms different types of rock. Erosion is the process of wearing away and transporting rock and soil by natural forces like wind, water, ice, and gravity.

    Here's how it works:

    * Erosion starts with existing rocks: All types of rocks (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic) can be eroded.

    * Erosion breaks down rocks: The forces of erosion break down rocks into smaller pieces (sediments) and carry them away.

    * Sediments are deposited: The transported sediments eventually settle and accumulate in a new location.

    * Sedimentary rocks form: Over time, these sediments get compressed and cemented together, forming new sedimentary rocks.

So, while erosion doesn't form rocks directly, it plays a crucial role in the creation of sedimentary rocks.
