  • Why Water Doesn't Pass Through Solid Rock: Understanding Permeability
Water cannot pass through solid rock because it is impermeable.

    Here's why:

    * Impermeable materials have tiny pores or spaces that are too small for water molecules to pass through.

    * Solid rock typically has a tightly packed structure with very small spaces between the mineral grains.

While some rocks have cracks or fissures that allow water to flow, the rock itself is generally impermeable.
