  • Earth's Structure: Understanding the 5 Main Layers - Crust to Core
The five main physical layers of the Earth are:

    1. Crust: This is the outermost, solid layer and what we live on. It's relatively thin compared to the other layers.

    2. Upper Mantle: This layer is mostly solid but behaves like a very viscous fluid over long periods. It's responsible for plate tectonics.

    3. Lower Mantle: This layer is also mostly solid but much denser than the upper mantle.

    4. Outer Core: This layer is liquid and composed mostly of iron and nickel. It's responsible for the Earth's magnetic field.

    5. Inner Core: This is the Earth's innermost layer and is solid due to immense pressure. It's also mostly composed of iron and nickel.
