  • When Did Life First Emerge? Exploring the Archean Eon
    The first organisms arose in the Archean eon, which spanned from about 4.0 billion to 2.5 billion years ago.

    While there's still debate about the exact timing, evidence suggests that life first appeared in the early Archean, possibly as early as 4 billion years ago. These early organisms were likely single-celled and prokaryotic (lacking a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles), much like bacteria and archaea today.
