  • Understanding Earth's Crust: Composition and Types
    The first layer of the Earth touching the surface is called the crust.

    It's the outermost and thinnest layer, composed of solid rock. There are two types of crust:

    * Continental crust: Forms the continents and is thicker and less dense.

    * Oceanic crust: Forms the ocean floor and is thinner and denser.
