  • Lead Ore: Sources, Mining, and Extraction
Lead is not isolated from a rock. Lead is found in lead ores, which are rocks that contain lead minerals.

The most common lead ore is galena, which is a mineral composed of lead sulfide (PbS). Other lead ores include cerussite (lead carbonate, PbCO3) and anglesite (lead sulfate, PbSO4).

Lead is extracted from these ores through a process called smelting, which involves heating the ore with other materials to separate the lead from the other components.
