  • Sedimentary Rock Formation: Understanding the Rock Cycle
If sediments from a weathered sedimentary rock become cemented together, they will form another sedimentary rock.

    Here's why:

    * Sedimentary Rocks: These rocks are formed by the accumulation and cementation of sediments.

    * Weathering: This process breaks down rocks into smaller pieces (sediments) through physical and chemical processes.

    * Cementation: This process occurs when dissolved minerals in groundwater precipitate out between sediment grains, binding them together.

    So, the cycle continues:

    1. Existing sedimentary rock weathers.

    2. The weathered material becomes sediments.

    3. These sediments are transported and deposited.

    4. Over time, the sediments are cemented together, forming a new sedimentary rock.
