  • Earth's Mantle: Understanding the Liquid Rock Layer
    The liquid rock layer of Earth is called the mantle.

    While the mantle itself is mostly solid rock, it's hot enough that it behaves like a very viscous fluid over long periods. This is why we call it a "liquid rock layer" even though it's not truly liquid in the same way that water is.
