  • Earth's Youngest Crust: Mid-Ocean Ridges Explained
The youngest part of Earth's crust is found at mid-ocean ridges.

    Here's why:

    * Seafloor Spreading: Mid-ocean ridges are where new oceanic crust is created through a process called seafloor spreading. Magma from the Earth's mantle rises to the surface, cools, and solidifies, forming new crust.

    * Continuous Formation: This process is ongoing, so the crust furthest from the ridge is the oldest, while the crust closest to the ridge is the youngest.

    * Subduction Zones: Older oceanic crust eventually gets pushed down into the Earth's mantle at subduction zones, where it is recycled.

Therefore, the newest crust is constantly being generated at mid-ocean ridges, making them the source of the youngest parts of Earth's crust.
