  • Plate Tectonics Formations: Mountains & Volcanoes Explained
Two formations resulting from plate tectonics are:

    1. Mountains: When two continental plates collide, they push against each other, causing the land to buckle and fold, creating mountains. This is known as continental-continental convergence. The Himalayas are a great example of mountains formed this way.

    2. Volcanoes: When an oceanic plate subducts beneath a continental plate, the denser oceanic plate melts, creating magma. This magma rises to the surface, forming volcanoes. This is known as oceanic-continental convergence. The Andes Mountains in South America are a great example of a volcanic mountain range formed this way.
