Easter Island is located on the
Nazca Plate, which is a
convergent plate boundary with the Pacific Plate. This means the two plates are moving towards each other. The Nazca Plate is being subducted (pushed) beneath the Pacific Plate.
While the island itself is not directly on the plate boundary, its location is heavily influenced by the convergent plate activity. The volcanic activity that formed Easter Island is a direct result of this subduction zone.
