  • Asama Volcano: Tectonic Plate Location & Volcanic Activity
Mount Asama is located on the North American Plate.

While Japan is situated on the boundary between the Eurasian and Pacific Plates, Mount Asama sits on a smaller tectonic block within the Eurasian Plate. This block is known as the Honshu Microplate.

It's important to note that even though Asama sits within the Eurasian Plate, it's still a highly active volcanic area due to the subduction zone where the Pacific Plate dives beneath the Eurasian Plate. This subduction process is the driving force behind the volcanic activity in Japan, including Mount Asama.
