  • Glacier Melt: Observable Changes to Landscapes and Water Bodies
Here are two things you could observe when glaciers melt:

    1. Changes in the landscape: As glaciers melt, they leave behind evidence of their movement. You could observe:

    * Receding ice fronts: The glacier's edge will retreat further back as the ice melts.

    * Exposed bedrock and sediment: The ice that was covering the land will melt away, revealing the underlying rock and sediment.

    * Formation of lakes and ponds: Meltwater can collect in depressions left by the glacier, forming new bodies of water.

    * Changes in river flow: Meltwater feeds rivers, causing them to flow higher and faster.

    2. Changes in the ice itself: You could observe:

    * Increased crevassing: As the ice melts, the glacier becomes thinner and more susceptible to breaking, creating larger cracks called crevasses.

    * Calving: Large chunks of ice break off from the glacier's edge and fall into the water.
