  • Sandstone: Formation, Composition, and Properties
The type of rock formed by wind and blowing sand is called sandstone.

    Here's how it happens:

    * Wind Erosion: Wind picks up loose sand grains and carries them along.

    * Transportation: The wind transports the sand grains to new locations.

    * Deposition: When the wind loses energy, the sand grains are deposited, often in layers.

    * Compaction and Cementation: Over time, the weight of the deposited sand layers compacts the grains together. Minerals dissolved in groundwater then act as a cement, binding the grains together.

This process results in the formation of sandstone, which is a sedimentary rock made up of sand-sized particles.
