  • Landslides: History, Causes, and Early Observations
It's not accurate to say someone "discovered" landslides. Landslides are a natural phenomenon that have existed for as long as there have been mountains and hills.

    However, we can say that:

    * Ancient civilizations recognized and documented landslides. For example, the ancient Greeks attributed some landslides to earthquakes, and there are historical accounts of landslides in China dating back thousands of years.

    * Early scientists began to study landslides more systematically in the 17th and 18th centuries. They developed early theories about the causes of landslides and how to predict them.

    * Modern science continues to improve our understanding of landslides through geological surveys, engineering studies, and computer modeling.

So, while no single person discovered landslides, our knowledge of them has evolved over time through the observations and research of many individuals throughout history.
