  • Mantle Composition: Elements & Structure Explained
The mantle is primarily composed of silicate minerals.

Here's a breakdown of the elements found in the mantle:

    * Silicon (Si) is the most abundant element, along with oxygen (O), forming the basic building blocks of silicate minerals.

    * Magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe) are the next most abundant elements, giving the mantle its density.

    * Calcium (Ca), aluminum (Al), and sodium (Na) are also present in smaller amounts.

Important Note: The composition of the mantle changes with depth. The upper mantle is primarily made up of peridotite, a rock rich in olivine and pyroxene. The lower mantle has higher densities and different mineral compositions.
