  • Understanding Sedimentary Rocks: Formation & Examples
Rocks that form from bits of existing rocks getting stuck together are called sedimentary rocks. Here are some examples:

    * Sandstone: Formed from sand grains cemented together.

    * Conglomerate: Formed from larger pebbles and gravel cemented together.

    * Breccia: Similar to conglomerate, but the fragments are angular, indicating they were broken close to their source.

    * Mudstone: Formed from very fine sediment, like clay and silt, compressed and cemented together.

    * Limestone: Can form both chemically and from the accumulation of shells and other organic matter.

    * Coal: Formed from the accumulation of plant matter, compressed and transformed over time.

These are just a few examples, and there are many other types of sedimentary rocks, each with its own unique composition and formation story.
