Volcanic Ash: Understanding Dust-Sized Particles from Lava
Dust-sized particles of hardened lava are called volcanic ash.
While it's commonly called "ash," it's not actually ash in the traditional sense. It's made up of tiny fragments of volcanic rock, glass, and minerals that are ejected from a volcano during an eruption.
