  • Savannas: Location & Why They Thrive Near the Equator
Savannas are generally found closer to the equator.

    Here's why:

    * Climate: Savannas require a distinct wet and dry season, which is typical of regions near the equator. The equatorial regions experience high temperatures and receive a lot of rainfall, while the dry season is caused by the shifting of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

    * Latitude: Most savannas are located between 10° and 20° latitude, both north and south of the equator.

    * Examples: Some well-known savannas, like the African savanna, the Brazilian Cerrado, and the Australian outback, are all located in regions closer to the equator.

While there are some exceptions (like the Patagonian Steppe in Argentina), the vast majority of savannas occur closer to the equator due to the specific climatic conditions they require.
