North American & Pacific Plates: Convergence & West Coast Geology
The two plates that meet along the West Coast of the US are the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate.
This is a convergent plate boundary, where the Pacific Plate is subducting (diving) under the North American Plate. This process is responsible for the formation of the Cascade Range, the San Andreas Fault, and the many volcanoes in the region.
