  • Tectonic Plates: Understanding Earth's Crust Structure
Large chunks of Earth's crust are called tectonic plates.

These plates are massive, rigid sections of the Earth's lithosphere (the outermost layer of Earth, including the crust and upper mantle). They move slowly over time, driven by convection currents in the mantle. This movement is responsible for many geological phenomena, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain formation.
