  • Volcanoes in Kentucky: A Geological Overview
Kentucky doesn't have any active volcanoes. In fact, it doesn't have any volcanoes at all. Kentucky's geology is primarily made up of sedimentary rocks, formed over millions of years from the accumulation of sediment in ancient oceans and lakes.

While there are no volcanoes in Kentucky, there are some interesting geological features related to past volcanic activity. For example, the state has a few small areas of igneous rock, which are formed from cooled magma. These rocks likely originated from volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, but the volcanoes themselves have long since eroded away.
