While not considered a separate region, some sources may also include the Essequibo River Basin as a distinct natural area due to its unique ecosystem and ecological importance. It encompasses a significant portion of the Highland Region and contains a diverse range of plant and animal life.
Therefore, while technically three regions are most widely recognized, the Essequibo River Basin may sometimes be mentioned as a separate natural area.
