Deposition is the geological process in which sediments, soil and other particulate matter accumulate and settle in a new location. Deposition occurs when the transporting agent such as water, ice, wind, or gravity loses its competence and the material it was carrying is deposited. When the particles are deposited on a riverbed, it is called aggradation.
