  • Understanding Rock Weathering: Which Rock Erodes Fastest?
The type of rock that weathers the fastest is sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks are those rocks formed from the deposition of sediments and their subsequent cementation.

Examples include sandstone, mudstone, and limestone. These rocks are composed of smaller, previously existing bits of other rocks and usually don’t have the tightly knit fabric of other rocks. When exposed to weathering agents such as water and wind, these weak bonds between the tiny fragments easily break down, making sedimentary rocks more susceptible to weathering.
