Dragonflies appeared in the Carboniferous Period, which is in the late Paleozoic era. The largest known dragonfly is Meganeura monyi, which had a wingspan of about 75 cm. Dragonflies have remained relatively unchanged since the Paleozoic era, and can still be found in modern habitats.
