- Can measure the circumference of spheres, ovals, and irregularly shaped items

- Easy to measure the inside edge (or curve) of shapes.

Disadvantages:

- Cannot get an accurate length of straight objects as tape does not hold firm without some tension.

- Tape does not conform to edges and curved surface precisely unless care is taken. Tape can bend too sharply and become damaged if not pulled out from the center of the roll.

- Measurements for inside edges and curved surfaces depend on tape tension which can create variations between workers.
