  • HBr: Strong Acid or Base? Understanding Acidity
    HBr is a strong acid.

    Here's why:

    * Strong acids completely ionize (break apart into ions) in water. This means that when HBr dissolves in water, it essentially fully dissociates into H+ (hydrogen) ions and Br- (bromide) ions.

    * Weak acids only partially ionize in water.

HBr is a hydrogen halide, and most hydrogen halides (like HCl, HI) are strong acids.
