  • Alkaline Substances: Examples & pH Levels Explained
    A substance with a pH higher than 7 is considered alkaline or basic. Here are some examples:

    * Sodium hydroxide (NaOH): Also known as lye, it's a strong base commonly used in soap making and drain cleaners.

    * Ammonia (NH3): A common household cleaner, ammonia is a weak base.

    * Baking soda (NaHCO3): This is a mild base often used in baking and as an antacid.

    * Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2): This is a strong base known as slaked lime, used in construction and water treatment.

    * Milk of magnesia (Mg(OH)2): A common antacid, it's a mild base.

    * Bleach (NaClO): This is a strong base often used for disinfecting.

    Note: The higher the pH value, the more alkaline the substance.
