  • DNA Solubility: Which Liquid Prevents Dissolution?
DNA is not soluble in ethanol (ethyl alcohol).

    Here's why:

    * DNA is hydrophilic: This means it loves water and dissolves well in it.

    * Ethanol is hydrophobic: It repels water and creates a non-polar environment.

When ethanol is added to a solution containing DNA, the DNA molecules clump together and precipitate out of solution. This is a common technique used in labs to isolate and purify DNA.
