  • Understanding Electrical Neutrality in Atoms: Protons & Electrons
An atom is electrically neutral when it has an equal number of protons and electrons.

    Here's why:

    * Protons: Positively charged particles located in the nucleus of an atom.

    * Electrons: Negatively charged particles orbiting the nucleus.

    * Neutrons: Neutrally charged particles located in the nucleus.

Since the charges of protons and electrons are equal in magnitude but opposite in sign, an atom with the same number of protons and electrons will have a net charge of zero, making it electrically neutral.
