  • Sodium Iodide (NaI): Understanding Ionic Bonding
Sodium iodide (NaI) has ionic bonding. Here's why:

    * Sodium (Na) is a metal, readily losing one electron to form a positively charged ion (Na+).

    * Iodine (I) is a nonmetal, readily gaining one electron to form a negatively charged ion (I-).

The strong electrostatic attraction between the positively charged sodium ions and the negatively charged iodide ions creates the ionic bond in sodium iodide.
