  • Identifying Sodium Chloride: The Solubility Test
The property that can most easily distinguish sodium chloride (NaCl) from other solids is its solubility in water.

    Here's why:

    * Sodium chloride (NaCl) is highly soluble in water. This means it readily dissolves in water, forming a clear solution.

    * Many other solids are not soluble in water. For example, sand, sugar, and chalk are not soluble in water.

Therefore, by simply observing whether a solid dissolves in water, you can easily differentiate sodium chloride from many other solids.

Additional Note: While solubility is a good starting point, it's important to remember that some other substances, like potassium chloride, are also soluble in water. To confirm it's sodium chloride, you might need to perform other tests like flame tests (sodium produces a bright yellow flame) or chemical analysis.
