  • Salt: Compound or Mixture? Understanding Chemical Composition
Salt (NaCl) is a compound. Here's why:

    * Elements: Elements are pure substances made up of only one type of atom (like sodium (Na) or chlorine (Cl)).

    * Compounds: Compounds are formed when two or more different elements chemically combine in a fixed ratio.

    * Mixtures: Mixtures are combinations of substances where each substance retains its own properties.

In the case of salt, sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl) atoms have chemically bonded to form a new substance with properties distinct from either element alone.
