  • Deposition of Water Vapor: Understanding Frost and Snow Formation
The process that changes water vapor (a gas) into a solid is called deposition.

    Here's how it works:

    * Water vapor is water in its gaseous state, invisible to the naked eye.

    * Deposition occurs when the water vapor molecules lose enough energy (usually by cooling down) and transition directly from a gaseous state to a solid state, bypassing the liquid state.

This is how frost forms on surfaces, and how snow forms in clouds.
