  • Common Sulfide Minerals: Properties, Uses, and Examples
Here are some common sulfide minerals that consist of sulfur and one other element:

    Metal Sulfides:

    * Pyrite (FeS2): Iron sulfide, known as "fool's gold" due to its golden color.

    * Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2): Copper iron sulfide, an important source of copper.

    * Galena (PbS): Lead sulfide, a primary source of lead.

    * Sphalerite (ZnS): Zinc sulfide, a primary source of zinc.

    * Cinnabar (HgS): Mercury sulfide, a source of mercury.

    * Molybdenite (MoS2): Molybdenum sulfide, an important source of molybdenum.

    Non-Metal Sulfides:

    * Stibnite (Sb2S3): Antimony sulfide, used in making matches and other products.

    * Realgar (AsS): Arsenic sulfide, a toxic mineral.

    * Orpiment (As2S3): Another arsenic sulfide, also toxic.

This is not an exhaustive list, but it includes some of the most common and important sulfide minerals.
