  • Sublimation: Understanding the Phase Change from Solid to Gas
    The process of a solid turning directly into a gas is called sublimation.

    Here are some examples of sublimation:

    * Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) sublimates into carbon dioxide gas at room temperature.

    * Mothballs (made of naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene) slowly sublimate over time.

    * Frozen water (ice) can sublimate in very cold, dry conditions.
