  • Uranium as Nuclear Fuel: Understanding Fissionable Isotopes
Uranium itself is not a fuel. It is a radioactive element that contains fissionable isotopes.

These isotopes, particularly uranium-235, are the actual fuel. When these isotopes undergo nuclear fission, they release a tremendous amount of energy.

So, while uranium is not fuel itself, it is the source material from which nuclear fuel is derived.
