  • Oxygen: Nonmetal or Noble Gas? Understanding Its Properties
    Oxygen is a nonmetal.

    Here's why:

    * Nonmetals are generally found on the right side of the periodic table. They tend to be poor conductors of heat and electricity.

    * Noble gases are located in Group 18 of the periodic table. They are extremely unreactive because they have a full outer shell of electrons.

Oxygen is highly reactive and forms many compounds, making it a nonmetal.
