  • Concrete: Organic or Inorganic? Understanding Its Composition
Concrete is an inorganic compound. Here's why:

    * Organic compounds are defined as compounds that contain carbon atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms (with some exceptions like carbon dioxide).

    * Concrete is primarily composed of cement (which is a mixture of calcium silicates, aluminates, and ferrites), aggregates (sand, gravel, or crushed stone), and water.

    * While concrete does contain some trace amounts of organic compounds (like admixtures), the vast majority of its composition is inorganic.

Therefore, concrete is considered an inorganic material.
